THE TORTOISE & THE HARE CHALLENGE

Today we were challenged to find a way to make a Tortoise travel faster.  We didn't have a Tortoise to check our inventions but Mrs Kenyon took two of the inventions home to try out on Herman the turtle.

Charlie made a wonderful car for Herman to travel in.  She found it tricky to get the wheels to move.  Herman only just fitted in the car and managed to make it fall over.  He's not a safe driver.  Maybe he needs a helmet?

Herman loved his rocket!  Once again though he didn't fit in it very well.

Herman is bigger than we thought.

We watched a movie of the Hare and the Tortoise and wrote stories about it...

Have a read of Lloyd's story:

Once upon a time there was a rabbit. They wanted to have a race.

"On your marks, get set go!"  The rabbit bet the tortoise.  He took a nap.  The tortoise caught up and passed the rabbit.  The rabbit woke up.  He ran past the tortoise.  The rabbit came by some rabbits.  He started to be a showoff.  The tortoise passed the rabbit again.  He got distracted.  He played tennis and the tortoise won.  Slow and steady wins the race.  The rabbit wanted a remath so the did.

"On your marks, get set, go!:  The rabbit got puffed so the tortoise won again!  \\

"Looks like I can bet you! YAY!" said the tortoise.

CINDERELLA - MAKE IT MONDAY

Word must have gotten out!  We are expert problem solvers. We had ANOTHER fairytale character email us today.  Keira read the email out to the kids

Cinderella is tired of her shoes falling off and needs our help to her a pair of shoes.  Cinderella had some pretty strict success criteria that we needed to met.  We were super excited to see what we could make for Cinderella, especially when one of the criteria was that the shoes need to have another use!  What on earth could we do for that?  We WONDER!!!

We brainstormed all our ideas for what we could do!

 .

Once we had though about what we needed to find out about in EXPLORE, we went through to the other room to get started on our learning!

 .

Part of being a SELF MANAGER is knowing when you are ready to move onto the next stage in the Learning Process. For us, this is going to our REFLECT CHECKPOINT.  Mrs Kenyon checkpointed us to see if we were ready to move onto the ACT part of our Learning Process.

Once we passed the checkpoint we were able to move through to ACT in the Rainbow Room.

Look what we came up with!

Royce made Cinderella a hover board.  It's pretty cool!

 .
Ryla, Ava-Rose and Holly P had a great day making their shoes - lots of pink and strapy shoes today!

       .     .

Keira, Charlie and Amelia made their shoes that could also be used as handbags!  Now that is clever.

Lauren and Katie made a strap so Cinderella's shoes will stay on.

Once we had finished making our shoes we needed to REFLECT.  Did our shoes meet the Success Criteria?  Lots of them did.  We hope Cinderella likes them! .

The Lighthouse keeper challenge

After being read the story "Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch" the children were challenged too build a way of getting food from a boat to the lighthouse without leaving the boat.
They needed to be able to explain the way the design worked and assess against a set of success criteria.
They were allowed to use any material they could find in the classroom including blocks, lego, paper, mobilo.
They could choose who to work with.
Here are some of the groups at work!

These girls worked out a way to check their boat was one meter away from the lighthouse!
